FAQ’s

  • We invest in BC-based ventures that focus on unique technology, have a validated product-market fit, a scalable and profitable business model and a strong team that can execute all the way to a profitable exit.

  • You need to be an accredited investor to invest in eFund. In order to benefit from the 30% EBC/VCC tax credit you need to be a British Columbia resident.

  • We welcome investors from around the world. In fact, international investors can invest in eFund to increase their deal flow and have access to British Columbia’s unique tech ecosystem. However, non-BC residents cannot apply for the tax credit.

  • To make an investment in eFund, simply send an email to info@e-fund.ca or to any of our board members and we’ll get back to you with our investment package. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have. All our processes are online and easy to complete.

  • Our minimum initial investment is $10,000 CAD. Annual investments of up to $400,000 CAD are eligible for a 30% VCC tax credit of up to $120,000 CAD per year per investor. Ask for our investment scenarios of a one-time larger investment or multiple annual investments to help you consider your investment approach.

  • We will send you a tax credit investment certificate as proof of your investment. You can claim your tax credit when you file this with your annual tax return. You can invest any time during the year to get the tax credit. You may claim investments during the first 2 months of any year for the preceding tax year.

  • Yes, subject to the requirements of your RRSP and/or TFSA trustee. We strongly recommend using Western Pacific Trust Company for these purposes. We can facilitate this process.

  • There are no upfront costs for the investor. Legal, administrative and marketing expenses are incurred directly in the fund and are reported to all shareholders on an annual basis. We will charge a small fee for share re-registrations and special requests, some RRSP/TFSA fees may be charged by your trust account holder.

  • eFund distributes your share of the gains, net of costs, fees and taxes directly to you as Canadian dividends for which you will receive a T5. Depending on our tax situation some of these may be capital dividends.

  • Your eFund investment pays out gains until the last company in the fund has exited. You may cash or reinvest these gains. As a condition of the VCC tax credit, your base capital needs to stay invested for 5 years. Your investment in eFund can be held in a joint name or in trust. It cannot however be traded.

  • You can just invest and let us do the work, or you can be actively involved in the sourcing, screening, due diligence and post investment management (PIM). We host monthly eFund Investment Team meetings where we discuss due diligence and PIM, share knowledge and network with other active investors. If you want to be involved in pre and post investment management, just let us know. Anyone can register to attend these events via our website and will receive a Zoom link for the meeting.

  • We announce new investments to all shareholders once the board evaluates a due diligence report. We share select portfolio company information and updates in the member restricted area of our website. We send quarterly performance updates via email. Semi-annually, we give detailed fund performance and company updates at our AGM in June and at our Social Event in the Winter season.

What our Investors have to say:

E-Fund is a great way to learn the “how-to” of Angel investing in a collegial environment and at – relatively! – low risk.

Dr. Ian Gardiner, Thoracic Radiologist

“E-Fund offers an opportunity for me to help young entrepreneurs grow and develop new businesses. I get to invest in these projects while helping them along their journey.”

Phil Mundy, CEO and Owner of multiple medical supply companies.

“E-Fund is a great way to make Angel Investments in local companies. They provide an opportunity to meet some of Vancouver’s best young entrepreneurs and seasoned Angel investors, and learn and give back to both by contributing to due diligence and post-investment management.”

Frank Leffelaar, Owner of Crush Marketing
